OptiNum-Grid is a community project of the German D-Grid Initiative and thus funded by the BMBF (the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research). It started in June 2009 and is expected to run for 3 years.
The aim of the project is to develop, deploy and test generic services for the optimization of technical systems and scientific models with help of numerical simulations in grid environments. According to the agreement with the industrial partners this are services for:
- the on-demand deployment of applications required by grid jobs on execution nodes of the grid
- the protection against failures of grid resources
- the protection of confidential user data on grid resources
- the definition and execution of workflows in a grid
- the accounting of resource usage through the resource provider
- the realization of parametric and optimization studies as well as design validation in the grid
- equation solving as grid application
For test and demonstration purposes the industrial partners will provide applications which build upon these services, basically applications for circuit design and the design of microoptical and adaptronical systems.
The project will use the Globus Toolkit as underlying grid middleware.
